This handcrafted Boxing Hares Jewellery Box is made from solid, ethically sourced Irish elm and features a striking marquetry lid inspired by the Irish countryside.
The lid is decorated with a detailed boxing hares motif, created using traditional marquetry in walnut and sycamore veneers. Long associated with spring, courtship and rural life, the boxing hares design gives this wooden keepsake box a strong connection to nature, wildlife and the Irish landscape.
Each box is handmade by me in my workshop using locally sourced Irish timber. The elm is milled on my own sawmill, air-dried for several years, then kiln-dried before being shaped into the finished piece. This careful process helps create a box with warmth, character and lasting quality.
Inside, the base is lined with dark charcoal faux suede, providing a soft surface for jewellery, keepsakes, small treasures and special mementoes. The underside is also faux suede lined to help protect polished furniture and delicate surfaces.
Finished in a durable satin lacquer, this Irish elm jewellery box requires no special aftercare and is designed to be used, displayed and treasured for years to come.
